For many years the Mobile Soup Kitchen was Living Hope's initial contact with the street children. Soup, bread and tea was loaded into a van and distributed seven days a week from five locations around the city. This was a vital connection point, making first contact with new children and meeting their most urgent needs.
But more than this, it established trust and opened the lines of communication. Living Hope would then invite the children to attend the day centre, help with medical or dental needs and offer clothing. Children would also be encouraged to attend school, give up drugs, find work or return to their home if the situation allowed. |
